Underground
Size variants of underground tanks (reservoirs)
The tanks are 1.7 and 2.4 metres high, with diameters from 3.7 to 22 metres (50 size variants in total). If required, we can manufacture an underground tank (reservoir) of non-standard height in the range of 1.25–2.37 metres.
Areas of use
Storage of drinking water, process water, fire-reserve water, food products, UAN, wastewater and other mildly aggressive substances.
Advantages of underground tanks (reservoirs)
Thanks to the underground installation and the insulated roof, the liquid in underground tanks (reservoirs) does not freeze. Accordingly, for year-round operation, underground tanks (reservoirs) need no additional insulation or heating systems. Underground tanks (reservoirs) are the most effective solution for storing a fire-reserve of water.
To minimise general construction work, underground tanks (reservoirs) can be partially buried and then bermed. The design of an underground tank (reservoir) is no different from that of an above-ground one.
Installation features
- An underground tank (reservoir) may be installed on a strip foundation (a slab foundation is preferable).
- The tanks (reservoirs) must be waterproofed.
- After waterproofing, the tank is backfilled with soil. The roof of the underground tank (reservoir) is not covered with soil.
- A few months after the work is completed, once the soil has settled, the customer is advised to lay a paved apron around the tank.
Operating features
- The roof is a load-bearing structure. You can walk on it, but driving vehicles over it is prohibited.
- Connection pipes and valves are installed just as on above-ground tanks. Inspection wells must be installed to service them.
- The underground tank (reservoir) comes with a maintenance hatch and a rope ladder.
Requirements for the installation site
- The length and width of the excavation pit for an underground tank (reservoir) must be two metres greater than the tank diameter.
- The groundwater level must be more than 3.5 metres below ground level. If the groundwater level is higher, the underground tank (reservoir) is installed partially buried and then bermed.
- Access to the installation site for an excavator and a concrete mixer must be possible.
- No lifting equipment is needed to install the underground tank (reservoir).
