Municipal water supply

The water supply of a populated area begins with tanks, from which water is fed to the water-treatment system and then on to consumers. In the past, welded steel tanks were made for this purpose, but after 5–10 years of service most of them end up in a failure-prone condition. That is why, to solve the problem of rusty water at the tap, plastic tanks — including modular ones — are now increasingly used.

Areas of use:

• Towns and villages with a shortage of drinking water. For example, in the town of Ternivka (Dnipropetrovsk region) water was supplied only 5–6 hours a day. After two 1,150 m³ tanks were installed, round-the-clock water supply to the town was restored.
• Populated areas with no drinking water at all. For example, in the village of Velyka Mykhailivka (Odesa region) two 1,100 m³ tanks were installed and a water-supply system serving 8 (eight) villages began to operate;
• Populated areas with failing tanks. In the town of Ichnia (Chernihiv region) two 400 m³ tanks were replaced, and in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi (Odesa region) a 363 m³ tank. The steel tanks had completely rusted through and the drinking water had become hazardous to health.
• Populated areas with «aggressive water». Water from boreholes often contains iron and hydrogen sulfide, which are later removed by water treatment. But if a tank is not resistant to aggressive substances, it quickly goes out of service. The plastic liner of a modular tank is resistant to aggressive substances. For example, in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi (Odesa region) tanks of 363 and 2,033 m³ are used for water with a high hydrogen-sulfide content.

Advantages of tanks for town and village water supply:

• The technical properties of the membrane make it suitable for storing drinking water.
• Installing the tanks requires only minimal general construction work.
• Water-supply tanks can be installed in hard-to-reach places such as basements, mountains and islands.
• No lifting equipment is needed to assemble the tanks.
• Water-supply tanks can be installed underground.

Additional options

• To reduce heat loss, the tanks are insulated with expanded polystyrene.
• For winter operation, an electric heating system is installed (a heating element with a control system).
• For year-round operation, we prepare a thermal calculation that determines the insulation thickness and the heating-element power.
