Bases and Foundations for Modular Tanks

External modular tanks are installed above ground on a strip or slab reinforced-concrete foundation. The tank's metal wall is then installed on this foundation. A strip foundation is recommended for most tanks. A slab foundation is used for tanks in which non-drainable residues are not acceptable — for example, in tanks for UAN (liquid nitrogen fertilizer).

Requirements for the finished foundation:

• Width of the strip foundation — 600–1000 mm;
• Minimum foundation thickness — 400 mm.

Surface requirements:

• Local surface irregularities of the foundation, when checked with a two-meter straightedge — no more than 5 mm;
• Difference in elevation between any non-adjacent points of the foundation — no more than 15 mm.

The depth of foundation placement and reinforcement depends on the soil conditions of the construction site.

Underground tanks are installed on a slab foundation, which is laid in a pre-excavated pit. The surface requirements for the foundation are the same as for above-ground tanks.

Indoor tanks do not require a separate foundation if the room already has a concrete floor. Sand is required for laying the membrane during tank installation. The volume of sand is calculated at 100 mm across the entire bottom surface of the tank. The sand must be prepared before tank assembly begins.
