Roofs for Modular Tanks

Modular tanks are supplied with three types of roofs:

• Galvanized metal.
• Plastic tensioned.
• No roof.

The metal roof made of galvanized steel withstands snow and wind loads. This roof is installed on tanks that are operated year-round. The metal roof consists of a load-bearing frame (beams) fastened to the top row of galvanized sheets with bolts, and decking made of corrugated sheeting. The decking sheets are joined together with self-tapping screws with rubber washers, which ensures the roof is watertight.

Technical specifications of metal roofs:

• Roof diameter — from 3.7 to 22 meters.
• Decking thickness — 0.45 mm.
• Decking material — corrugated sheeting PK 20.
• Snow load — 180 kg/m² (maximum load for Ukraine according to DBN building codes).
• Equipment — inspection hatch.

The plastic tensioned roof is installed on tanks operated indoors or seasonally outdoors. The plastic roof is made of a polypropylene or PVC membrane and is fastened to the top row of galvanized frame sheets. This roof prevents dirt, dust, insects, and rainwater (when placed outdoors, etc.) from entering the tank. Plastic roofs with a diameter of more than 7.3 meters are additionally equipped with a central support post.

Technical specifications of plastic roofs:

• Diameter — from 3.7 to 22 meters.
• Attachment to the tank — via eyelets and rope.
• Material — PP or PVC (UV-stabilized).
• Equipment — an inspection hatch is installed if required.

For outdoor tanks, the plastic roof must be removed for the winter period.

In some cases, a roof is not needed on the tank. As a rule, tanks installed without a roof include those for irrigation (especially in greenhouses), rainwater collection, wastewater collection, and seasonal water tanks.
